I was just wondering what the best source of Omega-3 fatty acids would be from? I know there is the "Fish oil" that is derived from fish, but there is also omega-3's that are found in other natural things like flaxseed and shit i believe... So is the omega-3's from plants better then the stuff from fish?

Right now im using "Pharmaceutical Grade" fish oil that has 950mg Omega-3 in each capsule.. But I also drink this really good "Brain juice" that has omega-3's that are derived from other things besides fish.

You get different fatty acids from different sources. Being that there isn't just one type of fatty acid, I'd say try to get them from a variety of sources.

Fish oil has high levels of DHA and EPA, also known as docosahexanoic acid and eicosapentanoic acid. These compounds are invaluable to brain health and other important "stuff." You want to focus on getting more DHA in your diet if you are a guy and more EPA if you are a girl.

Anybody else seen the commercials for "Lovaza"?
Omega 3 fish oil ethyl esters.
Sounds like some SERIOUS BULLSHIT to me, doubt its much better than regular fish oils, probably equivalent if you dose enough fish oil, and its fucking expensive.
Ridiculous imo.

eh sorry for sounding like such a dumb shit here but is it not better eating it from various places rather than taking the capsules.

kidney beans, navy beans, tofu, winter and summer squash, certain berries such as raspberries and strawberries, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, romaine lettuce, and collard greens as well as fish such as Sardines Salmon Mackerel and herring
and other nuts seeds such as Soybeans and soybean oil Walnuts Brazil nuts Soy nuts
Olive oil Hemp seeds and Pumpkin seeds.
that is some of them but there are a lot more out there.
it would probably be cheaper as well to include it in your diet rather than buying capsules.

Also, which type is best for cleaning out your liver....and does it really help a liver like mine that has been abused by APAP but not alcohol?

put rosemary in food stufss where you can and make rosemary tea as it is good for helping to cleanse the liver other things for helping the liver cleanse its self include carrots beetroot broccolli garlic tomatoes melons peppers wheatgerm.
lemon is a great cleanser over all for your body so it would be good to include as much fresh stuff when possible in your diet.
I am pretty sure cayenne pepper is also good for cleansing liver but I might be wrong on that I will have a wee look and see what I find though

The phrase "cleaning out the liver" is oxymoronic. It makes no sense. The liver is a self-cleaning oven.

The term "detoxification" is another bullshit term used by new agey health scammers.

Cleansing and detoxification aren't part of human biology.

However, silymarin flavonolignans from milk thistle are proven to protect against and HEAL liver damage from alcohol, APAP, death cap poisoning, etc.

Do you have any legitimate scientific references for your claims about the "cleansing" properties of these certain foods?

As what you said coolio, you are right about it being damage that needs to heal and not so much cleansing but if you are going into scientific aspects then the bilareubin levels that need brought down to help lower damage and inflammation of the liver there are foods that do help.
Both my father and grandfather have heamacromatosis and the dieticians suggested foods to help reduce inflammation, which included the list above.
Rosemary is used in combination with milk thistle in aromatherapy and holistic medicines, neither have full backing from government, although they are broken down to be used in conventional medicines.

As they are proven to stimulate bile, it is therefore, something to help stimulate and help the liver maintain better health.

Just a little point though just because you use a cloth to clean something does not mean it does not need cleaning also.

That site you linked is bullshit though. It's copywriting. Someone wrote that to sell you things. It doesn't cite references, it's just made up.

and here is another one just incase www.herbcollege.com/herbofthemonth.asp?id=73
just because a site is selling something does not mean what they write amount a product is wrong.

Another thing which I remembered after the last link which do not please you I posted was when someone has liver problems they are advised to use short to medium chained fats and oils such as walnut oil over say vegetable oil etc, so would be worth someones time to get a list of short and medium chained fats. The reduce the amount of work the liver has to do.

My nephew had to get a special baby milk when he was born called pepti junior which was partially digested due to his liver problems, he was born with a very severe form of jaundice called hyper-bilareubinemia (think thats how it is spelt) he also got a medicine called URSO (ursodeoxycholic acid) and a list of things for when he started on solids. he still has this and frequently goes jaundiced and gets hospitalised for this.

So basically I am listening to the doctors, specialists and dieticians.

some foods produce more bile stimulation when eaten, anything which has longer chain fats produce less bile, making it harder for your body to digest and take more from.
the amount of bile going through your gut is reduced with fatty foods. So if you are having problems with your liver you want it to work to best you can get it so stimulating bile production through better eating would be a better way of going about it.

I highly recommend visiting trackyourplaque.com and searching the member forum (you may need to sign up - if this is an issue, PM me, and I can try to pull some info for you with my magical powers :)). Generally, omega fatty acid products are pretty good no matter where they come from, and the important part is the 3 to 6 ratio and getting lots of EPA and DHA. I'm currently using Pharmax fish oil, which is the best product I've ever come across - it's *extremely* concentrated and it doesn't taste like anything, and if you get the burps from it (which I do horrendously, no matter what brand I use), it just tastes like orange oil.

That is a lot better than some of the ones I have heard of. Orange oil is not that bad of an after taste. I still prefer to eat the fish though don't care if no-one else likes the smell lol

Fish Oil as an antidepressant

I've also read that fish oil (omega-3's) may play a role in anti-depression. I know that some college like Harvard did a study in the 90's of high fish eating populations like japan and SE Asia and found there was a direct correlation in the number of cases of depression as compared to places like the USA (and other western countries) which had a higher percentage of depression rates among the population.. But i also can't help to think that maybe sense we have more doctors here in the US then they do in some of the places they may have used in the study maybe the depression just doesn't get reported or "diagnosed".. Anyways I believe "Depression" as a "chemical imbalance" is a bunch off nonsense used by drug companies to make money of bullshit/useless SSRI's and shit like that. Anyways serotonin has no direct link to whether or not you feel depressed or not. Remember that guy they found with a genetic disorder that had ZERO serotonin in his brain and he never experienced a day of depression.. im a babbling ern-a-kist..hahaa:) back to the topic at hand.. How bout them omega-3's, get em from fish or get em from plants?

You can't get EPA or DHA from commonly harvested terrestrial plant life. Algae is the only viable vegan source that I know of.

The alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in hemp, flax, canola, soy, walnut, etc. can be converted to EPA and DHA by the human body, but it's severely rate limited and you can't possibly get a healthy amount of DHA and EPA in the brain by eating ALA-heavy foods.
